Yak Bone Porcelain Thangka Shines in Overseas Markets

Thangka, Tibetan Buddhist scroll paintings that date back to the 10th century, are now available to the masses after researchers in southwest China discovered a way to integrate the ancient art onto porcelain plates and cups. Traditional Thangka uses organic minerals and pigments like coral, agate, sapphire, and gold to add color to designs and drawings on cotton or silk scrolls, a process nearly impossible to accomplish on porcelain.
