In Shanxi Province, northern China, farmers transform land above old coal mines into vast sunflower fields. Once home to eight coal mines, the region now hosts about 667 hectares of sunflowers, as part of efforts to repair the soil and prevent subsidence. This sunflower industry has revitalized the local economy, creating over 200 seasonal jobs and generating approximately 419,000 U.S. dollars.
