Illegal fishing activities have dealt a severe blow to key fish stocks in Uganda, posing a significant threat to the livelihoods of fishermen and the ecological balance of Lake Victoria. Henry Ssegirinya, a fisherman, and Robert Bakaaki, Chairman of the Kigungu Landing Site on Lake Victoria, highlight the dire consequences of this illicit practice. Rampant illegal fishing not only depletes fish populations but also undermines efforts to sustainably manage Uganda's fisheries.
