Brazil has become the largest importer of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), benefiting drivers like Marcelo Goncalves, who praises his Chinese EV for reducing his fuel costs as a professional ride-sharing driver. Despite Brazil gradually increasing import tariffs on EVs to protect local industry, sales have remained robust. A significant tax hike to 25 percent is scheduled for July 2025, by which time local production is expected to be operational.
