In central China’s Henan Province, watermelon inspectors play a crucial role in the production process by determining the ripeness of the fruit. With two swift taps, these inspectors listen for a hollow sound, which indicates ripeness. One inspector demonstrated this by predicting a melon wasn't ripe, and upon cutting it open, confirmed it by finding white seeds. With roughly 150 inspectors, the town’s watermelon industry operates efficiently and effectively.
