Kenya certainly put in a lot of work to ensure success of the Standard Gauge Railway. Not only did Kenyan citizens vouch for it but also left alternative means of transport and put trust in it… I decided to use the SGR to help in the small way that I can as a low working class citizen…

SGR’s promise delivered or not?

Drunk passengers! Puke! Insults!

A Kenyan citizen using the SGR to Nairobi from Mombasa has made a complaint. According to the parent to an 11-year-old daughter, serious misconduct was being entertained. This was her write up…

“Today I was ashamed and disgusted… I was travelling via the SGR from Mombasa to Nairobi. Usually I travel using bus service but I thought of the debt our country has to pay to China so…They were drinking alcohol continuously, swearing in Kikuyu, shouting making fun of other passenger. My 11-year-old daughter was with me and I was struggling to explain to her the reason for such behavior. I didn’t even know alcohol was allowed on the SGR. At one point, one of them ‘puked’ on the seats and clothes making the cabin stink. I have decided I will take the bus going back to coast even if it takes 12 hours. I don’t think Uhuru should allow alcohol on the train. Please kindly keep me anonymous. From a very patriotic but disappointed Kenyan.”

Sadly, Kenyans’ response was all negative. Sarcasm and no support. Only few felt the happenings are uncouth and should not be allowed.

Reason why I pay 3k and travel comfortably on the first class… Pombe lazma watu wakunywe, utazoea. Ride zangu zote sgr zimekua interesting but sijaanika social media.”
